Clogged Drain & Leaks from A to Z

Drains can clog over time due to material accumulation. It's important to address any issues with your drains to avoid future problems.
Overtime your drain can clog from everyday use. As these materials accumulate they will cause a backup in your drain, preventing water from flowing freely.

Clogged Drain Flagged in a Home Inspection

Drains are commonly checked by home inspectors and almost always flagged in your home inspection process. Plumbing in general can be an intimidating area to tackle for a lot of homeowners. Common issues like leaks or corrosion, are relatively easy to deal with and less expensive to repair. However, a clog left uncorrected can lead to a clogged drain deep in pipe that results in costly repairs from a drain service company or plumber.

Also, a small leak in your drain can slowly damage and rot out the floor of the cabinet if not addressed immediately. Cabinets should be looked at as a piece of furniture bolted to your wall. Making repairs to cabinets is something that usually requires a specialist and is more expensive than routine maintenance.

Drains can accumulate hair and toothpaste over time causing a clog.
Hair, toothpaste, soap, grease, and other debris can cause your sink to clog over time.

In our ‘Home Inspection from A-Z’ video featuring drains, we take a look at a slow draining sink. By pulling the drain apart, cleaning it out, and re-assembling the drain, we were able to make a Qwik repair. It takes us about 30 minutes to complete the task. In some cases, the cause of slow drainage is located further down the drain line in a place that cannot be taken apart and cleaned. In those cases, a snake is needed to reach further down the drain. Helping to push through debris or pull back a clog and removing it completely. Next time you think about flushing baby wipes, floss, or other items consider these issues occurring in your drain.
